Paleo-eaters are all about eating a paleolithic diet and don't eat foods that post-date the neolithic revolution. Yet, what about all the industrial age chemicals that are in and on just about every product on the shelves of the standard grocery store. I know a lot of people who buy their meat from costco to save a buck and don't think twice about buying conventionally (read industrially) grown crops. As I see it, it is probably wise to rate the daily ingestion of carcinogens, neurotoxins, antibiotics, synthetic hormones, and other nasty chemicals as a bit worse of a dietary practice than eating a little gluten. A backyard garden is an economical way to get fresh veggies as unadulterated as you can get without taking a trip to pre-industrial times. Managed well, a good sized backyard garden can save you a lot of money, and take the sting out of the price of all the organic foods you'll have buy to keep industrial age chemicals out of your cave-man body.

Of course, digging those beds was a bit of a chore. very rewarding nonetheless.
